The concept of the span of a metric space was introduced by A. Lelek in
1964. The span can be thought of as an analogue of the diameter of a metric
space. Some simple examples of this "geometric" span will be given.
Later the concept of the span of an abstract graph was defined. Some simple
examples of the "combinatorial" span will be given. Some comparison
will be made between the two types of span.
