Mathematical Impossibilities
The talk will be suitable for a general audience
including undergraduates.
Students are strongly encouraged to participate.
Abstract
Mathematicians are happy to accept unintuitive results, but draw
the line at outright contradictions. This talk surveys some elementary
algebraic and geometric derivations of impossible results, looking for
the kernel of truth therein. Sometimes a graphing utility can help
expose the fallacy.
This talk is rated UG, which means that undergraduates are
encouraged to attend.
