Asymmetry and Duality in Topology
The talk will be suitable for a general audience.
Students are strongly encouraged to participate.
Abstract
It turns out that the traditional separation axioms (eg., Hausdorff,
completely regular) can be viewed as a relationship that may hold between
two topologies on a set. This view leads to dualities among topologies,
which behave in many ways like the traditional "opposite ring" or "dual
category" dualities. We discuss this framework and some applications.
