Abstract of Colloquium talk at Math Department of WVU, February 27, 1997

Set Theoretic Analysis

The talk will survey some classical results on real functions and connect them with recently proved related theorems. All of these results will have some set theoretic content.

The talk will also contain some recent results concerning cardinal functions in analysis, including the results proved one of our PhD student, Francis Jordan. These cardinal invariants are associated to different classes of real functions and are defined in the context of closing these classes on addition and multiplication operations.

The talk will be suitable for a general audience.
Students are strongly encouraged to participate.
