Gould has Erdös number 2 in three ways:
     1. Gould, H. W. - Verner E. Hoggatt, Jr. (1921–1980) - Erdös (1913-1996)

     2. Gould, H. W. - Michael E. Mays - Erdös
     3. Gould, H. W. - John Brillhart - Erdös
It could have been 1, but after several years I could not figure out Paul's hint, so one might say it is holding at  2 minus epsilon.

Gould has Einstein number 3 in the following way:
    Gould - L. Carlitz (1907-1999) - E.G.Straus(1922-1983) -  Albert Einstein (1879-1955)
