Henry W. Gould, Professor Emeritus of Mathematics, West Virginia
Office: Room 210Q, Armstrong Hall.
Gould has Erdös number 2 in three ways:
1. Gould, H. W. - Verner E. Hoggatt, Jr. (1921–1980) - Erdös (1913-1996)
2. Gould, H. W. - Michael E. Mays - Erdös
3. Gould, H. W. - John Brillhart - Erdös
It could have been 1, but after several
years I could not figure out Paul's hint, so one might say it is holding at 2 minus epsilon.
Gould has Einstein number 3 in the following way:
Gould - L. Carlitz (1907-1999) - E.G.Straus(1922-1983) - Albert Einstein (1879-1955)

Gould Manuscript Project - Henry Gould and Jocelyn Quaintance are preparing
a three-volume tutorial text and revision of Gould's book Combinatorial Identities.
It is expected that this project will require several years for completion and will be
web-accessible.The work is based on seven volumes (2000 handwritten pages) of
numbered results and identities which
Gould put together from 1945 to 1990. Eight volumes of
combinatorial tables are now available in PDF form. See above. These
include tables of identities, series operations, and data on
Stirling, Nielsen and Worpitzky numbers. The 1972 book remains in print unaltered, with supplementary inserts.
