Calculus Placement
Calculus Placement
The calculus portion of the placement exam consists of 25 multiple choice questions. They cover material from what is roughly equivalent to high school Algebra II and Trigonometry (sometimes called Pre-calculus). The topics include
- order of operation
- rules of exponents
- simplifying expressions involving radicals and exponents
- working with variables
- factoring and distributing
- solving simple linear and quadratic equations
- functions, including polynomials, trigonometric, exponential and logarithmic
- basic trigonometry
- using functions to solve problems
There are some word problems. All questions are multiple choice and include the possible answer of "None of these is correct" so that educated guessing is typically not a useful strategy.
The nature of this material is more detailed than for part one. We recommend that you click here to view and work the pre-calculus sample questions. You may also look at the algebra portions of the samples found there to practice your skills. This link leads to the LA Valley College practice test websites, both of which provide a a good sample of problems representative of those you will see on the WVU exam.
